Motorsport racetrack at dusk with motion-blurred lights, an anime-production key-art reference

Our highest genga-density feature: every race sequence runs on ones, and the storyboard team worked from real lap-time data for the fictional circuit so the pacing of each overtake matches a physically plausible car rather than genre convention. The tradeoff was a much longer key-animation schedule than a typical feature, absorbed by giving every other department โ€” backgrounds, finishing, compositing โ€” a longer runway to work against.

The film’s single longest continuous on-ones sequence is the final straight: eleven seconds, animated as one unbroken take rather than cut together from shorter takes, which is as much a scheduling decision as an artistic one โ€” cutting it would have been easier and the director said no.
