About
A small studio, not a franchise — Sakuga takes on a handful of productions a year rather than running multiple pipelines at once.
Sakuga is a small animation studio: three directors, a rotating roster of key and inbetween animators, and a finishing team that never touches more than one production’s colour model at a time. We take on a handful of productions a year — sometimes as originating studio, sometimes as an animation-production partner working from another studio’s script and designs — rather than running several pipelines in parallel the way a larger house can.
That’s a deliberate trade. A smaller slate means every episode gets the same three directors’ attention rather than being split across parallel teams, and it means we can commit ones-hold sequences to the cuts that need them instead of rationing them across a much larger schedule.
What we don’t do
We don’t take on more than one feature at a time — a film’s schedule doesn’t compress the way a TV season’s can, and running two in parallel means both suffer. We don’t use motion capture or 3D character rigs for principal animation; every cut in our catalogue is hand-drawn genga and douga, digitally inked and composited but never generated.
