Kitsune no Machi
A town where half the residents are foxes wearing human shape, and everyone has agreed not to mention it.
Our first theatrical feature. A feature’s genga and douga totals dwarf a TV episode’s by roughly the runtime multiple you’d expect, but the real cost isn’t the arithmetic — it’s that a two-hour film has nowhere to hide a rushed cut the way a 24-episode season can absorb one bad week. Every cut in the back third, where the fox-shape illusions start failing, runs on ones.
The transformation sequences are hand-drawn frame-by-frame rather than using any digital morph — each fox-to-human transition is a genuine inbetween sequence, timed slower at the start and faster at the finish, the classic slow-in/fast-out easing done the old way, with drawings rather than a timing curve.
